About Marty

Marty has lived in Park Ridge for over 50 years. He attended Franklin Elementary School, then Lincoln for middle school before graduating from Maine South High School and attending the University of Iowa, graduating as a Hawkeye in 1994. Marty returned to the 60068 and within two years married his wife Lauren, also a lifelong resident of Park Ridge, and together they have raised their four children in this wonderful community. Marty has worked in the information technology sector selling both software and services to Federal, State and Local Government accounts.

Marty has played soccer his whole life recreationally as well as at Maine South and coached all four of his children through many years of involvement with Park Ridge Soccer Club. He was a referee and mentor as well as a member of the Board for many years. In addition to volunteering with youth soccer and basketball, Marty has been involved with Park Ridge Wilderness Scouts and Princesses, St. Paul of the Cross Church, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Lions Club. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, grilling, traveling, fostering dogs from local animal shelters and spending time with his family. From 2003-2011 Marty served as a Park Ridge Park District Board Commissioner. During these eight years, he realized the importance of intergovernmental cooperation and the impact of creative problem-solving among the governing bodies of the City. Working together means fiduciary savings, increased open dialogue, alignment of goals as well as creating unique opportunities to benefit all constituents. One shining example of cooperation includes the moving of the water reservoir from its underground location near the library to the current location at Hinkley, allowing for the redevelopment of the Uptown district. After the unexpected passing of Dave Schmidt in 2015, Marty was appointed Mayor, then elected in 2017 and reelected in 2021. Whether it is economic development, forward-thinking sustainability, respectful and open-minded discussions, innovation of projects and new initiatives – Marty has worked fiercely for all things Park Ridge and continues to be the City’s cheerleader- in-chief! Ryan, Conor, Fiona and Timmy have grown up watching their parents cherish Park Ridge and along with so many others, have worked hard to support and maintain this community as a beautiful, thriving, welcoming place in which to live and to visit. The Maloneys hope that future citizens and families will benefit from all the 60068 has to offer and continue to work together to make the City an even more remarkable place to enjoy!

Volunteering has been important to my family since before getting married, when Lauren and I were in college and used philanthropy as a fun way to connect when we were dating. Two things that have remained constant throughout our 28 years of marriage have been our concern about food insecurity in the community and our love for dogs and support of animal rescue. Throughout our area there are a myriad of ways to get involved with these meaningful missions if they are important to you too! Food Insecurity There are always friends and neighbors who have needed support and the initiatives to combat food insecurity are more important than ever. Luckily, there are many ways to get involved and we are happy to work together!

If you would like to support our community members experiencing food insecurity, there are a number of great organizations doing meaningful work right now.

Maine Township Food Pantry
The Maine Township Food Pantry has been helping to address issues of food insecurity since 1981. The recently-remodeled pantry is open to residents of Maine Township between the hours of 10-1 Tuesday and Friday and 2:30-4:30 on Wednesday. Residents can choose the items they need with a grocery-store-like shopping experience including a selection of dairy, meat, produce, and other refrigerated and frozen items. The Food Pantry provides food to over 400 families each month.

St. Paul of the Cross Food Pantry
The SPC food pantry currently serves 200 households in need each month. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations come from our parishioners and the Park Ridge community. Mother Teresa and St. Ann's Guild members shelve food donations in the pantry. Mother Teresa's Guild also purchases ground beef each month from their Labors of Love fundraising event. St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church members, who serve on their social concerns board, volunteer and drop off monthly food and fund donations.

Good Food Pantry
The Good Food Pantry was established in 2022 in memory of David Gooding, a long-time resident of Park Ridge, IL who worked in the food industry his entire career. Before passing away in 2011, he was the manager at Houlihan's in Uptown Park Ridge where he spent his days making sure everyone who walked through the doors of the restaurant left happy. His family began the pantry to help the less fortunate members of the local communities who are struggling with food insecurity. Good Food Pantry collects non-perishable food and distributes it to partner organizations that give the food directly to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger.

Sunday Night Suppers
Sunday Night Suppers is a free, community meal offered by Park Ridge churches and organizations on Sunday nights. Food insecurity affects many individuals and families in Park Ridge and the surrounding area. Sunday Night Suppers (SNS) exists to provide a space for people to come share a meal, no questions asked. This community-based hunger program originated with local Park Ridge faith leaders (Park Ridge Ministerial Association) who believed their congregations had the responsibility and passion to serve the needs of vulnerable people in the community. SNS is made possible through the generosity of individual contributions

Animal Rescue If you know me, then you know I love dogs and currently have three of them. We have had many foster dogs over the years and concurrently, many foster fails! My family feels it is important to do the best we can collectively to find permanent homes for dogs. Please know that the local shelters and animal welfare organizations appreciate even the smallest of donations and the numbers of animals in their care are at a staggering high. If you might be also inclined to help with the initiatives for helping these dogs, then I encourage you to help in any way you can.

We have worked with Wright Way Rescue ,  Heartland Animal Shelter, Chicago Animal Care and Control,  and Border Tails Rescue,  and invite you to review their websites on how to help with donations financially, with time, in spreading the word, or by considering fostering or adoption!

Supporting our Troops
Some of you might know that our son, Conor, is a First Lieutenant in the US Army, active duty, and recenlty returned from a  deployment in the Middle East.

Our community recently partnered with the Mayor’s Office and Delta Battery in an overwhelmingly generous initiative to send each of the fifty soldiers in Conor’s group a giant box filled with favorite snacks, toiletries, games/cards to pass the time, candy, treats and more. Each box had something in it from the soldier’s hometown, handwritten cards and notes from the community and the generosity shown to these men and women serving our country as been beyond extraordinary. We will never forget how loved and appreciated our son has felt because of your kindness. If you would like to connect with those in the military by sharing cards and notes, please feel free to drop them off anytime at the Mayor’s Office and we will be sure they are shared with the soldiers who needs encouragement and support while overseas.
